Leave It To Wally

Here’s another amazing career turn for Tony Dow, who played Wallace Cleaver on “Leave It To Beaver” fifty years ago and has also appeared behind the camera as a director and SFX supervisor. He’s about to have a sculpture displayed at the Louvre in Paris.
C’est magnifique! The bronze sculpture is titled “Unarmed Warrior,” which depicts woman holding a shield (a Spartan, perhaps?). So if there’s anyone in that area from December 11-14, go see it.
I guess The Beav would say Wally really isn’t such a bad brother after all!

Saturday Night Video

This here’s probably one of my first experiences of album-oriented rock...in my freshman year in high school. Bob Dylan’s “Idiot Wind” from 1974:

Now this is a hoot! A few days ago, I was setting up some TextExpander snippets for “bbho”...set to display Бара́к Хусе́йн Оба́ма II, which just happens to be President-Elect Obama’s full name, rendered in Cyrillic text. If you can’t read it, I strongly encourage you to upgrade your typefaces.
But I digress, ☭omrades.
Anyway, for the sheer fun of it I did a Google search on his Russian name, and found the Russian Wikipedia entry. Translated into English, you will find phrases which raised Hell over here, but I’ll bet nary a peep comes from Russia! And wait till you see what’s done with Joe the Biden.

German WWI Color Photos

Filed under: | History | Photography

WOW! Now this presents a new perspective on World War I: color photos from the German side:

Given today’s film speeds and grain quality, I can only imagine that what these guys worked with during The Great War. Unlike a Russian effort from the same era, this was actual color film. Until I do some more digging, I’m going to throw a number out there for the ISO-equivalent speed: 32.

23rd Century Garbage

I just got an e-mail with JJ Abrams’ revisionist USS Enterprise for the Star Trek Reboot, which I will most definitely NOT see!

I have to admit, it’s a cool-looking ship, but dammit, this is NOT the USS Enterprise! I hope this film bombs like a son of a bitch!

All The News They Hope To Print

Filed under: | BS Patrol | War on Terror

Now that BHO has been elected, the el cubos are getting ready for a massive orgasm of wish fulfillment. To that end, one group forked out a significant amount of money to produce a Fake New York Saddam Times, and handed them out in the Big Apple:

And there you have it. What more needs to be said?

818 Pictures Later…

Three days ago I coughed up 20 bucks (with Tax included) for a 2GB xD memory card for the Official Camera from eBay. Believe it or not, I got it today, quickly formatted it, and lo and behold! That really IS the number of full-res JPEG photos I can store on this card.
OK, I then decided to turn on the CCD-RAW setting. Result: 185 photos. Holy Fujichrome, Batman! (That’s right, Chum)
And if I want to shoot 640x480 30fps video? I can...for 58 minutes, 41 seconds. Dang! That’s a one-hour TV “special” and then some. I think I’ll go have some fun with this card this weekend!

Veterans Day & Remembrance Day

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month...All gave some, some gave all.

And don’t forget, so did fellow Men and Women in the Commonwealth. They also fought for Freedom. That’s what makes us a Band of Brothers.

AMERICA’S ANSWER

Rest ye in peace, ye Flanders dead.
The fight that ye so bravely led
We’ve taken up. And we will keep
True faith with you who lie asleep
With each a cross to mark his bed,
In Flanders fields.
Fear not that ye have died for naught.
The torch ye threw to us we caught.
Ten million hands will hold it high,
And Freedom’s light shall never die!
We’ve learned the lesson that ye taught
In Flanders fields.

Горбачёв к Обама: Унесите Перестройка

Still considered the MSM’s media darling for Communism, almost seventeen years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the 77-year-old Mikhail Sergeyevitch calls on President-Elect Obama to carry out perestroika in the United States.
Has Mr. Gorbachev missed the conversation Obama had with Joe the Plumber? Is he not aware that Obama wants to “spread the wealth around?” I’ll bet he’s counting on the President-Elect to make good on his promise to use Executive Orders to circumvent any problems he may have with Congress. We’ll see how far he goes on that one.

That’s the German name for the United States Marine Corps which was born on this date in 1775. Their traditions carry through over the years to this day. Not only are they the Devil Dogs, they are also the Jarheads, the Leathernecks, whose a**es ride in Navy equipment safely. They are Always Faithful FOR US. That’s why I’m always thankful to the Marines.
If the Army and Air Force ever gaze on Heaven’s scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines. OOO-RAH!

Micro Reactors Touted Again

I got bit by a hoax six months ago...and apparently, The Guardian (in the UK) apparently didn’t get the message. They’re reporting that Hyperion has licensed micro-reactor technology from Los Alamos:

Let’s assume for a moment that this technology is real. Wouldn’t this create a bureaucratic nightmare if/when hundreds, if not thousands, of small towns who want to obtain energy independence apply for licenses to operate them? Or is that included in the $25-$30 million price? And we can’t leave the environmentalists who will go apes**t. Yes, all things being equal, this will keep the lawyers happy.
