Taunting Terrorists II

Since I’m on a binge here, I decided to visit my favorite Church Sign Generator and tweaked it just a bit for the desired effect:

Fun With Dubya

Seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong got his ride with President Bush today at the Crawford Ranch. I am sure he did not pass the President!
Also, here is some more fun someone had with the President. Thankfully it’s not Cindy Sheehan (EEEEWWWWWWW!). It’s a ”speech” which he could have given to Saddam a couple of years ago...or could yet give to the Iranians.

San Francisco Bans USS Iowa

Filed under: | Axis of Donks

San Francisco’s congressional delegation secures the taxpayer funds to tow the World War II Battleship from Rhode Island to the City by the Bay. But then the city’s Board of Supervisors votes 8-3 to deny accepting the ship, citing the military’s ”Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy...a policy, may I remind you, was enacted by Bill Clinton...as the reason for the denial.
And the lady who brought home the bacon to the city she once led as Mayor is livid:

“This isn’t the San Francisco that I’ve known and loved and grew up in and was born in...I was very surprised...I thought that in view of what’s going on and in view of the loss of lives of our men and women, it was a very petty decision.”

Thank you, Senator Feinstein! Notice that she calls those brave Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, and Marines MEN AND WOMEN and NOT “Children.” It’s too bad you didn’t say something like this to your Homies:

“I secure 3 MILLION DOLLARS of taxpayer funds to bring home a ship which could have brought some JOBS and more tourism revenue to the City of San Francisco, and you have the nerve to vote it down because of how the military treats gays and lesbians?
“You a**holes seem to forget that it’s the same military who protects your sorry a**es so you that you can do what you want, with whoever you want, and however you want to do it without fear from getting wiped out from the ones who would just as soon behead you because of how you want to do it!”

Wishful thinking....

Nebraska 10 Commandments Constitutional

Filed under: | SCOTUS and The Law

Get a load of this: the ACLU loses a Nebraska case dealing with you know what! The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals rules that having a Ten Commandments monument on public property IS Constitutional and cites a recent SCOTUS decision, Van Orden v. Perry:

“The Ten Commandments monument had stood on the Texas State Capitol grounds for forty years without legal challenge. In Justice Breyer’s view, ‘those 40 years suggest more strongly than can any set of formulaic tests that few individuals…are likely to have understood the monument as amounting, in any significantly detrimental way, to a government effort’ to promote, endorse, or favor religion.
“Like the Ten Commandments monument at issue in Van Orden, the Plattsmouth monument makes passive-and permissible-use of the text of the Ten Commandments to acknowledge the role of religion in our Nation’s heritage.”

A good piece of news, indeed! I’d like to see the ACLU try that stuff out here with OUR Ten Commandments monument:

Fun With UNIX

Since I spent a couple of years learning Unix at my last job (prior to moving to AZ), and since Mac OS X is powered by Unix, I decided to have a little fun here with you all. Who can guess what the following means?

# find / -user you -name ‘*base*’ -exec chown me:us ‘{}’ \;

OK everyone...put your thinking caps on!

And since we now have a WINNER! (see comments)...here’s the video that became the Internet Legend!
But WAIT That’s not all! Evolution Controlled Creations rendered this phrase to tunes from the following artists: John Denver, The Doors, Elvis, Nirvana, The Beatles, and Billy Joel (TWICE!).
AAAAUUUUGGGGHHHH!

Third Time Is A Charm!

Well folks...I got the job! Just got off the phone with the staffing recruiter. I’ll be going to the Premier Relationship Center in Tempe, starting on either Monday, 05 September or Tuesday, 06 September; the recruiter has to call me back on that one since, after all, we’re talking Labor Day Holiday here.
Training will go from 0830 to 1700 Monday through Friday for three weeks. After that, my shift will be 1030 to 1900 Monday through Friday. More NORMAL hours, with a 6.5% increase in my base salary. Although I’ll be losing my 10% evening shift differential, this is definitely more than what I was planning on, so I’ll be losing only 3.5%.
What I’ll be doing is working with customers who call in with requests for help with their accounts. No more hunting down the a**holes who hide and give me the third degree when I find ‘em! There are also people I know over at the Tempe campus who will be glad to see me there! I can’t wait!

I Got Mail!

Yesterday I received the following e-mail from Barbara Hogan at Detroit Metro Airport:

Your e-mail to Mr. Robinson has been forwarded to me for a response.  On behalf of the Wayne County Airport Authority, please accept our apologies for the rude treatment you experienced from a Southwest Airlines’ skycap.  The airlines hire skycaps from a private company, so the Airport has no authorization to reprimand employees from an outside company.  We can, however, bring this situation to the attention of Mr. Miles Turpin, the Southwest Airlines station manager, for his consideration.  Providing good customer service is important to the Airport as well as our airlines, so we are confident Mr. Turpin will be interested in hearing about your encounter.  We will see that a copy of your message is shared with him.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.  We hope that the next time you use Detroit Metro Airport, it will be a more pleasant occurrence for you.

So progress IS being made! Stay tuned....

Military Service Survey

Dr. Rusty Shackleford over at The Jawa Report decided to survey major bloggers from both the right AND from the left to see if anyone had served in the military. The results may not be what you think.
For the record, I served 17 days (yes, you read right) in the Navy, from 11 October 1978 to 27 October 1978. I was 17 when I went in, spent 17 days on Active Duty, and was 17 when I got out.
I was fully qualified to go into the Nuclear Power program, but when I got to basic training at Great Lakes, IL, I found I had an eye condition called keratoconus which precluded my service. That date I was diagnosed with the keratoconus condition was on Friday, October 13, 1978.
No, I’m not triskaidekaphobic either. At least I was willing to sign my life and Constitutional Rights away for six years (minimum) to serve my Country, so to me, that counts.

Palm Pilot Blues

Yesterday I went to grab my Palm Tungsten E PDA to take with me to my interview, which, BTW, went very well again! My nerves always calm down once I get into that interview room.
Anyway I am digressing again. I hadn’t used it in awhile, and found out when I attempted to turn it on that it ran out of power! Unfortunately this meant I had to do a hard reset and reload EVERYTHING, which I’m doing as I write this. It’ll take awhile....

If Prince Charles had a Fraternal Twin…

Filed under: | War on Terror

...she’d be it!
I knew this subject matter would interest some of you, since it was brought up in a recent thread. And it didn’t strike me that Cindy Sheehan, as worn out as she looks in this photo (yes I removed the color, as she shouldn’t grace this blog with her colorful face), actually looks somewhat like the Prince of Wales. I feel bad for His Royal Highness in this case; he’s been compared to people such as Alfred E. Neuman and Ted Koppel, but now, this?
Yeah. I think so.
And her demeanor of late? It’s getting worse and worse by the day. Vanity Fair columnist Christopher Hitchens chronicles her ongoing contemptuous behavior. Perhaps that is the straw that broke the camel’s back with her soon-to-be ex-husband.

Nerves II

Just before I went on vacation, I took an assessment test for another position within my organization and I passed that, so now, today I have a 2nd interview for the position...this time it’s at the Tempe campus doing customer service work.
Better than collections (and dealing with a better grade of people instead of the jerks I have to try and find now), higher pay grade, but I lose the 10% shift differential (for working at night). It’s at 0900 hours (before my regular shift)...so another long day.

Singing To The Choir

Fred Thompson in Last, Best ChanceA few weeks ago I ordered a free DVD of a movie which purports to make people aware of the threat which we face along with the rest of the civilized world. I got it tonight in the mail, so I sat down and watched it.
It’s not a techno-thriller, but it is simply an informative film for those who do not keep up with events. The movie, ”Last Best Chance,” stars Fred Thompson as the President of the United States. Yeah, this role may be as close as the former United States Senator will get to the Oval Office, but that’s beside the point.
The film runs about 45 minutes and is based on events which have happened in the past, events which are happening now, and a possible outcome which can be prevented. It is followed by a 15-minute discussion with former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw, former United States Senator Sam Nunn (D-GA) and current United States Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) on what is exactly being done NOW to combat this threat.
This film is an admirable effort to inform people, but one important point they left out is the fact that all these efforts will be for naught if Iran gets the Bomb. Then al-Qaeda won’t need the clandestine sources. But at least a start has been made. Let’s keep it going and get the rest of the civilized world on board.
If you want to see this film, go to the Last Best Chance web site and order your copy.

It’s Still A Bargain

Our national average for a gallon of gasoline is now around $2.50 a gallon. But that’s still pretty cheap when compared to the rest of the world, that is. Most countries in the rest of the world tax the hell out of petrol, which is why places like the Netherlands pay $6.48/gallon and the UK $5.79/gallon.
Now look who’s at the BOTTOM of the list: Hugo Chavez and his neo-Communist “paradise” and four other nations where Islam is on the march or firmly established. Oh, and these are all oil-producing nations too. Go figure.

Until he cleans up his act…

...I will have to refrain from visiting Matt Drudge’s site. Even when using Firefox, I still get those annoying popups (and apparently, also some SPYWARE!) from his page...and Firefox is supposed to block them! Obviously, the determined will always find a way.
And it seems the idea of a Drudge boycott is spreading. I’ve also taken a hint from Pete Bevin in the UK to disable the more nefarious popups. If you use Firefox, I strongly advise this.
At least the technical aspect will be easy to handle...but there’s always more than one way to skin a cat.

Clinton Music Collection on CD

Filed under: | Axis of Donks

I wonder if Bill Clinton played this stuff while he was doing his ceegar thing in the Oval Office:

The 11-track disk includes tunes such as ”My One and Only Love” by John Coltrane; ”Harlem Nocturne” by David Sanborn; ”My Funny Valentine” by Miles Davis; “Summertime” by Zoot Sims; “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free” by Nina Simone, and ”Chelsea Morning” by Judy Collins.

Just to be curious, I did a quick iTunes search of the songs listed in the above paragraph. Of those, the Zoot Sims and Nina Simone tracks were not listed. But seeing as the CD goes on sale in about five weeks, I’m sure it’ll show up at the ITMS in short order, perhaps as a Celebrity Playlist if not the CD outright.
Oh, and since we got “2 for the price of 1” back then, I wonder how long it’ll be before we get a compilation from Hillary.
