Still No Reagan $10 Bill

Looks like Alexander Hamilton will remain on the new $10 bill. But at least it’s becoming more colorful to combat counterfeiting. The next scheduled currency redesign will be the $100 bill in 2007.
I am a little disappointed, but not overly so. One day I’d still like to see Ronald Reagan on some of our currency.

INCOMING! Another visitor to this site (with whom I debate from time to time on another board) wrote me back about a little “experience” he had with the newer $20 bill:

Hey Macker, I clicked on your website and read about the “no Reagan on the $10” etc.  I am glad the gov’t is doing more to make currency more difficult to counterfeit, but I must say, I saw a really, really, good fake $20 the other day.  To look at it, there was really no way to tell it wasn’t the real thing.  Little gold 20’s on the back, all the colors good.  Weight of the paper felt right and everything.  I was working at my cousin’s store when the police chief came in and tossed me 2 20’s.  Now, this guy and I have known each other for years, and I thought he wanted lottery tickets.  But, he just wanted to share with me and my cousin that there were some fakes going around.  The only thing missing was the “metal” strip in it.
I made sure to check for that strip, and mark each 20 I rec’d the rest of the day with that yellow pen thing.
*shrugs*  Just thought I’d share that.

They’re certainly getting better and better at it, aren’t they! Thanks Will!

Debut on Audio Drama

Allow me to preface this by thanking Cox and Forkum for providing the opportunity to rekindle an interest I’ve had for a long, long time. Thanks John and Allen!
The audio drama episode I read for a few weeks ago has been released to the public! Go Ye and check it out. The Macker Commands It!
Oh yes…I play the part of “The Guard.” I so enjoyed doing this, I hope to be doing more of it as time progresses. It’s so nice to have a life again!

Guess Who Got Arrested?

Filed under: | War on Terror

NO, not me, you can figure it out. But you gotta also wonder what took place first…the arrest, or this:

Not Worth It

And now, the Saddam New York Times has walled off its content from all the regular Joe Schmoes on the web, like myself. From the automatically renews each year. Home Delivery subscribers to The New York Times and the International Herald Tribune (at least 3 days delivery) are eligible to get TimesSelect for free as part of their newspaper subscriptions.

So is TimesSelect going to save the online beating the NYT is taking? Not really. Drudge (yes, I’m accessing him again, I’ve got better plugins this time!) has already given them the finger with another link to a Times columnist who’s supposedly protected by TimesSelect, so there is more than one way to skin a cat. I sure ain’t gonna pay the $50/year they want for it. Besides I usually went to them for BS articles, I can go elsewhere for that!

The Real Anti-War Message

Yesterday, as you know, there were supposedly a bunch of anti-war marches around the country and around the world. The first poster was used to advertise the march in San Diego. The second poster is their REAL message. Click on each to see what they say.
Fortunately, Citizen Smash reports that a number of counter-protesters turned up to thank the real Champions of Freedom: our Armed Forces!

BOB now Chase Field

Two days ago, the Arizona Diamondbacks revealed the new name of their ballpark, formerly known as Bank One Ballpark, or “The BOB”...it’s now known as Chase Field:

“The new name is great,” said Diamondbacks president Rich Dozer. “Its simplicity helps us maintain the spirit of classic American baseball in one of the most technically advanced, convenient and fan-friendly baseball fields in the country.”

All well and good. I actually like (ahem!) Chase Field, and the D-Backs even helped me recover my interest in baseball. But I bet it irks JPMorgan Chase to no end that they don’t sponsor Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball, and Little League Baseball all at the same time…that honor goes to Bank of America!

Comments Page FIXED!

Man, the fact that the Comments Page was not fully rendering was really beginning to bother me, so after discovering a couple of missing /div tags, and a few cut & paste actions, I finally fixed the comments page so that it fully renders. I feel much better now.

Cool Car Stamps

While sending letters or packages via snail mail can be a pain, it isn’t always a bad thing….

I saw these were now available at the Post Office, so I picked up a book. Hey, I am impressed! If I had the patience, I would consider taking up philatelic collections as a hobby.

And when I saw the old ‘53 Corvette, this custom retro model immediately came to mind from the 2003 Woodward Dream Cruise:

Cool eh!

Gee Wally…

“...what’s the ACLU gonna do now?” asks the Beav.
“Gosh, Beaver,” replied Wally, “for starters, we can thank God that the Cherokee Nation decided to display the Ten Commandments in their public buildings.”
“And the Federal government said they’re a sovereign nation, so they can’t be sued over that, right?”
Wally smiled, “That’s right, the ACLU is probably soiling their trousers as we speak.”
Beaver’s face lit up again. “That must also be why our friend Macker is taking part in that linkfest I read about over at Stop The ACLU.”
“Uh huh.”
“Gee Wally,” Beaver Cleaver grinned, “you’re not such a bad brother after all!”

O’Reilly Cleans Donahue’s Clock

Filed under: | War on Terror

Former talk show host Phil Donahue went on The O’Reilly Factor to spew the MoveOn.org talking points on the war in Iraq, and got stomped by Bill! Video (Windows Media format) and transcript are available.
What gets me is: Donahue tells O’Reilly that his nephew’s decision to enlist is not equal to one’s son or daughter enlisting…BULLS**T! They’re old enough to make that decision themselves, they enlisted, their service is just as valid! And that’s not even mentioning his words that we should be building statues to Senators who voted against the authorization to use force against Saddam.
Finally, Donahue also taunted O’Reilly to attend this Saturday’s anti-war demonstration in DC. I wonder if they’ll have as much success as Cindy Sheehan did….

Time for another visit to the UN! Let’s see, who’s Kofi Annan shaking hands with this time? Why it’s North Korean Vice-Foreign Minister Choe Su Hon.

Have at it, people!

And now, the Winners!

WIN: tgs333 - “Kofi Annan being sick for this event, had his “stand in” Morgan Freeman pause for a picture with Minister Choe Su Hon.  Thankfully, Minister Choe Su Hon could not tell the difference.”
PLACE: TIE! Phoenix - “North Korean Vice-Foreign Minister Choe Su Hon gives UN Secretary General Kofi Annan the tickle-your-palm-with-my-middle-finger-####-you sign as they pose amiably for the cameras.”
PLACE: TIE! Christopher - “U.N. Sec-Gen Koffing Anus and North Korean Vice Minister Choe Su Hon shake over the just signed Food for Nukes program.”

I Want To See This Commercial!

I learned all about ramen noodles way back in 1982, after I saw Blade Runner. Of course it’s just one facet of the College Survival Diet Staple.
Now, one Japanese manufacturer, Nissin Food Products Company, has taken this food to the final frontier! “Space Ram” has already gone up aboard Space Shuttle Discovery back in July, and of course it’s a favorite for astronaut Souichi Noguchi.
Next month, Nissin will film a TV commercial aboard the International Space Station, to be aired in November.
I sure hope these guys will make an English-language version available. Those hungry Russian cosmonauts will do anything for a quick buck, won’t they?
