Pelosi Tries To Save The Planet

Filed under: Axis of Donks |

I couldn’t even go any further than then the very first paragraph of this story of Nancy Pelosi trying to “do her part”:

“I have always loved longitude. I love latitude; it’s in the stars. But longitude, it’s about time....Time and clocks and all the rest of that have always been a fascination for me.”

Here you have a Speaker of The House sound like a flower child from the 60s, even though she’s speaking about a painting in her office. I can’t wait till the catfight occurs between Madame Speaker and Cindy Sheehan. They’ll still be debating George W. Bush’s “failed policy” and he isn’t even running for re-election. (For the record, the only “failed policy” of Bush is not wielding his Veto Pen during eh first six years of his Administration.)
And last time I checked, they still haven’t done squat in terms of major legislation ever since her party took control of Congress. Which of course gets the country nowhere.

Cuil? Cool!

Throw one more search engine into the works. This one, Cuil (pronounced “cool"), is a start-up by a group of former Google employees; Cuil goes live today, and presents itself as a more efficient means of searching the Internet.

I hope this group is a little bit more observant of American holidays than Google is. Now the bragging war begins.

Limited Membership

OK, seeing as I’m getting some membership requests, I thought I’d revamp the procedure for signing up, simply because I won’t put up with bogus requests coming from Russia or some nefarious location in eastern Europe.
And it’s very simple. Really, it is. If you wish to sign up, go ahead and do so, and then send an e-mail to me within 24 hours, letting me know where you heard about my blog. If you can do that, great. If you can’t do that, well then, see ya!
This applies to the person who signed up from Search for Glory...the clock is ticking for you!

Now I haven’t written much about ol’ Pooty since he slipped back into the shadows. This time, he utters words against a major Russian steel producer and their stock takes a nosedive in New York.
I wonder if he’s fixin’ to nationalize Mechel like he did Yukos a few years ago. In any case, there is no doubt who wields the real power in Russia, and it ain’t Medvedev.

There, Donks! Ya Happy Now?

Since The New Yorker did their strange satire on the Obamas, it was only fitting for their upstairs neighbors at Vanity Fair to placate Senator Obama’s supporters. So they take on the McCains and, true to form, it’s an almost exact copy of the Obama cover.
Granted, the New Yorker’s accompanying article was a positive portrayal of the junior Senator from the Народная Республика Ильиной, but don’t expect the same type of treatment for Senator McCain from Vanity Fair.

What Bush and Batman Have in Common

Filed under: War on Terror |

I actually read this article at work during lunch and my jaw dropped. NOW I have a reason to go see “The Dark Knight” even more than before.
You will too, once you read this treatise on the comparisons. One question remains, and too bad Heath Ledger isn’t around to ponder this: How would the Joker stand up to the Islamofascists?

Sheer Numbers for China

Drudge has the following alarmist headline today:

Only thing is....Asia, much less China...doesn’t have the market penetration like there is in North America. Nice work, Drudge: planting seeds of fear and despair to all Americans. Thanks a hell of a lot!

Iraq Banned by IOC

That august group of sports elitists known as the International Olympic Committee has saw fit to Ban Iraq from the upcoming Games in Beijing, due to “government interference.” But alas, the ugliness that the IOC saw was only skin-deep…
You see, the Iraqi National Olympic Committee was, until 2003, run by Saddam’s son Odai, who had a known history of torturing athletes who didn’t make his cut. According to Iraq’s government, they disbanded the committee when some of its members simply could not be found, very likely due to being kidnapped and/or murdered. This is totallly different than, say, Afghanistan being prohibited eight years ago due to interference from the Taliban.
So as a result of ultimately purging Saddam’s influence from its Olympic Committee, their athletes now can’t go. What a bunch of bulls**t from the IOC.

Obama: Wounded Troops Inappropriate

Filed under: Axis of Donks |

This, from Robert Gibbs, the spokesman for the Citizen of the World:

“it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign.”

And why is that, Senator Obama? Is that why you decided to flip-flop on public funding...so you wouldn’t be obligated to visit the very Men and Women who put their lives on the line so you can snub them?
And there’s another thing: guess you love to pander to the rest of the planet, which is only too eager to eat it up. One thing’s for sure. If you’re elected, Senator Obama, thousands of good American Military Men and Women will turn in their retirement papers, so they don’t have to serve under you!

UPDATE (07/25/2008; 0620 MST): And here’s the reason why he canceled the visit....it was because the military wouldn’t let him (or any other politician) use their personnel as a campaign backdrop; Obama could visit as a US Senator with only staff members, no campaign workers, and he couldn’t bring any of his own media. Apparently that wasn’t good enough for Obama.

The Series 7 Exam

Back at the end of January, I received this 600-page bookfrom my employer to study. I did as much reading as I could for over four months, at work every day, and sometimes on weekends. My brain got fried about a month ago. So now, as you read this, I will sit for the Series 7 Exam, which consists of 260 questions about the securities industry and regulations, over two three-hour blocks. 250 questions are scored, with the passing score 70%.
I sure learned a lot, and actually re-learned some stuff I knew a whole lifetime ago, as a lowly mail clerk at a stock transfer agency. Regardless, this experience gave me a greater understanding of our economic engine, and I am glad for that.

UPDATE (1312 MST): Out of 250 scored questions, I got 125 right, for only 50%, so I did not pass. This was extremely tough and I gotta hand it to anyone who can master 20 points higher than what I got. I have no regrets. I’ll talk to my bosses tomorrow and figure out some other options.

Gravity Takes Over

So far, this week at work has been long and arduous. so here’s what I’m throwing to the Wolves today:

BUSH SAYS WALL STREET DRUNK: Those who constantly deride the President for his past drinkin’ are gonna go apes**t over this one.

HERE’S MONEY! VOTE FOR US! Meanwhile the Donks in Congress are considering another $15 billion economic stimulus package for infrastructure. Just at the right time in the election cycle. NOT.

NAVY TO BUILD ONLY 2 STEALTH DDGs: At least the Navy made this cecision and not Congress. Nor Senator Obama.

The Choice of Future Generations?

I am a sucker for retro, and it looks like I’m gonna get more of it soon. My sources tell me this diner may figure prominently in the Caprica Pilot, slated to air this fall:

If you look real closely, you’ll notice some graffiti which apparently marks this as in or near some gang territory on Caprica City. There’s also another major brand (for now) which I’m sure will be excised during post-production, but it’s still funny to notice it now. Yeah, I can eat here.
