Evening Scorcher

Filed under: | The 48th State

Here it is, still 106 degrees Fahrenheit outside, past 2200 hours! Need I say more?

I Stand With Israel!

Filed under: | War on Terror

Now the balloon’s gone up again over in the Middle East, it’s been a while coming, since the last time the Arabs fought Israel to “drive the Jews into the sea” was back in October 1973. This time, it’s a whole lot more dangerous, because the bad guys have much more dangerous weapons…and yes, I’m understating the obvious.
In any case, I have a pen pal friend in Israel who I would like to say hello to. I hope and pray that you, your family, and your friends are SAFE as your country takes on Hamas, Hezbollah, the Chinless Ophthamalogist, and Mr. Dinner Jacket. I pray for your VICTORY over these barbarians.
Sigal, if you can call me or e-mail me and let me know how you are doing, I would sleep easier.

ORIGINAL POST: I Stand With Israel!

UPDATE (2243 MST): Just got off the phone with Sigal, who called back. She is OK, and she is away from the fighting. Whew. Sigal laments the fact that her country is in the same position now as it was a quarter-century ago.

Early Morning Scorcher

Filed under: | The 48th State

Here it is, 0600, and it’s already 96 degrees Fahrenheit. There’s a high-pressure center sitting right on top of us, and as a result, temps are expected to reach 113 today, 115 tomorrow, 114 on Saturday, and 112 on Sunday. Hot doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Blast From The Past

Dang. I never thought I’d see this again:

Yes, it’s confession time. My first computer of my very own was indeed a Commie 64, thanks to my dad’s help; he had one for his inventory control at his appliance repair store he started way back in 1983. My favorite games included: The Seven Cities of Gold (hey, I only got as far as Governor General!) and Raid Over Moscow (now why would one be surprised at that one?). But the GEOS graphical user interface came out in 1986 and I immediately got it because of its resemblance to the Mac OS. It actually worked quite well.
I did enjoy working with the Commie 64 for a short while…until my ex separated from me. She gave me the disks and she kept the computer, thinking she would emasculate me because I didn’t have something I enjoyed. No matter; two years later, I got my first Mac. And that’s another story for another time.

They Can Remember It For You Wholesale

I read this story about Russian so-called “capitalists” and immediately thought of Ah-nold’s 1990 movie, based on the Philip K. Dick novel. And we’re not even at the memory implant tech level yet. Not to mention short-range FTL:

For a paltry $500, you can have all your buddies believing you spent the last week walking along the Great Wall of China, or fishing off a hut in Bora Bora, or even chilling surfside at a resort in Dubai — whatever floats your baloney-laden boat, according to the [Saddam Los Angeles - Ed.] Times.

They have certainly taken P.T. Barnum’s maxim to heart.
