A Decade Without Di

There was a memorial service in honor of the late Princess Diana, who died ten years ago today in an automobile accident in Paris. In case you’re wondering who delivered the eulogy, it was Prince Harry, the younger of her two sons, and if you care to read the text, it’s located here.
Ten years on, her loss is still considered tragic, and it was. That said, if the Royal Family keeps holding these memorial services every ten years or so, they’d be elevating her to the same level as if she were a Queen. Hopefully, the rest of the British People (and those admirers from around the world) will figure out that this memorial will be enough and get on with their lives.

Retro Geek Gear

Two finds here: the first is a scanner which is in reality a handheld multimeter. It screams either Hewlett-Packard to Tektronix to me, but I of course am not sure, because the tech looks 70s-ish to me, but my sources tell me that it’s current tech:

Next are the Sacred Scrolls, which are used by varous priests to swear in the President. Of the Colonies, not the United States:

Cool, eh.

Floating Las Vegas?

So it would seem, if the initial premise for the movie based on the following game bears fruit:

Yes, that’s Joust. Man, I played that game at the arcades 25 years ago! Next thing you know, they’ll come out with a live-action version of Space Invaders….

Edwards: Sacrifices Only For Little People

Man, The Breck Girl has got the nerve to pontificate that Americans should give up their SUVs for the environment. Just like any other Donk. He sets a s**tty example, first those $400 haircuts and now this:

Why look at what Edwards tools around town in: that sure looks like a Cadillac SRX to me! Makes me want to go get one next time I’m in the market.

McCain: Craig Should Resign

The senior Senator from Arizona makes sense in calling for Senator Larry Craig’s resignation, in the wake of the news that Craig pleaded Guilty back in June to Disorderly Conduct…for trying to pick up a homosexual tryst in a Minneapolis airport. Notice the similarity of the three policiticans who have so far spoken up about this:

McCain told CNN the decision was Craig’s to make, “but my opinion is that when you plead guilty to a crime, you shouldn’t serve. That’s not a moral stand. That’s not a holier-than-thou. It’s just a factual situation.”
“I think he should resign,” McCain said.
[Minnesota Senator Norm] Coleman said in a statement, “Senator Craig pled guilty to a crime involving conduct unbecoming a senator.”
[Representative Pete] Hoekstra said Craig “represents the Republican party” and that “his conduct throughout this matter has been inappropriate for a U.S. senator.”

Inappropriate, Inappropriate, and Inappropriate. That pretty much sums it up. Senator Craig needs to take what little honor, if any, he has left, and step down. BTW: at least the GOP won’t lose the seat, as both control of both the Idaho Legislature and Governorship are in the hand of the Republicans.

Virginia Tech Report: Bureaucratic Bulls**t

Five months and counting after Kevin Cho took out 33 people, now a comes a report which summarizes what could have been done to prevent all those killings. In short, the faculty and students didn’t receive the necessary warnings. Yet another exercise in a bureaucracy full of itself.
Lots of blogs figured that out right after the murders, and also what was deficient at Virginia Tech. Let’s face it: Kevin Cho was one individual who didn’t receive the necessary mental health counseling he needed, no thanks to some screwup in the court system. He knew what he was doing.
I said it before and I’ll say it again: what needs to be done is to allow students and teachers who carry legitimate CCW permits recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia to be allowed to pack their heat anywhere not just on campus, but at any other school or place of business. An armed society is a polite society, and it’s also easier to be judged by 12 than to be carried out by 6.

I always wondered where the concept for the Batmobile came from. Now I know.

Castro’s Dying Words?

Filed under: | Axis of Donks | DFCs

Liberals the world over…especially in the United States….fawn over the words of Comrade Fidel (who at the very least is not in the best of health), who pronounces the ideal winning ticket for 2008 to be Shrillary and Osama Obama as President and Vice President, respectively.
Well, DUHHHHHH! Of course, Castro has nothing but kind words to say for Shrillary’s spouse, as well as Jimmy Carter. It won’t take a Rocket Scientist to figure out where his preferences lie.

Islamofascist Attack List

Filed under: | War on Terror

In case you’re wondering how many terror attacks attributed to Muslim terrorists over the last two months have occurred, here’s a list. I guarantee you won’t like it.
In case you do like it, well then, we know where you stand….

Iran: Ready to Control Iraq

Filed under: | War on Terror

I seem to recall a plot in one of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan novels…I think it was “Executive Orders,” where Iran takes over Iraq after the assassination of Saddam and forms the United Islamic Republic (now there’s an even worse oxymoron than the United Arab Republic from the late 1950s).
Funny I should mention that, because now Mr. Dinnerjacket wants to do the same thing. He also slams French President Sarkozy’s reaction:

“He only recently came to power and wants to find a place for himself in the world. He is still inexperienced, meaning that maybe he does not really understand the meaning of his own words. I think what he said is for the consumption of his inner circles. For us, it is of no political value.”

I’m sure Monsieur President Sarkozy will remember those words when Tehran and Qom (among other locations) are smoldering craters.

France Wants Noriega

On September 9, Former Panamanian strongman Manuel Noriega, whom we ousted in 1989 with Operation Just Cause and lots of loud music (why do you think we also drove Saddam nuts two years later?), will be released from prison, after serving his sentence for drug trafficking. But he will not be going back to Panama any time soon.
Now, France has next dibs on him…this time, for money laundering. They’ve agreed to hold him as a POW (which we did not do) if we allow his extradition there. No problem with that…after all, it’s likely he’ll die in the French version of Club Fed.

B4B Media Milestone

I thought I had a good thing going there with my Saddam’s Grandstanding series, which ended up with 14 official entries and a couple of unofficial ones to boot. But nope, Blogs For Bush has gone way past that with its 100th Post about “What Media Bias?”
In it, Mark Noonan salutes Chris Wallace of Fox News for smacking down Bill Moyers, who recently criticized Karl Rove. And a good smackdown it is too. Go Ye and check it out. The Macker Commands It!

NYC Cab Driver’s Strike?

Unless New York City withdraws its commitment to put GPS systems in the 8,000 taxicabs criss-crossing the boroughs every day, taking clients to needed destinations…the drivers’ union there will call a strike. That, in and of itself, may put a small dent in the number of cars on the streets.
I can see why the union doesn’t want the GPS technology in their vehicles. Some drivers tend to take breaks when and where they’re not supposed to; for example, they may pull over in the seedy part of the Big Apple (wherever that is, I have no idea) to go grab a hooker for a quickie, or a drug dealer for a dime. Or a cabbie might carry a fare to a known location for terrorist activities, say, a mosque under surveillance by the Feds.
Nope, can’t have that.
