German WWI Color Photos

Filed under: | History | Photography

WOW! Now this presents a new perspective on World War I: color photos from the German side:

Given today’s film speeds and grain quality, I can only imagine that what these guys worked with during The Great War. Unlike a Russian effort from the same era, this was actual color film. Until I do some more digging, I’m going to throw a number out there for the ISO-equivalent speed: 32.

Veterans Day & Remembrance Day

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month...All gave some, some gave all.

And don’t forget, so did fellow Men and Women in the Commonwealth. They also fought for Freedom. That’s what makes us a Band of Brothers.

AMERICA’S ANSWER

Rest ye in peace, ye Flanders dead.
The fight that ye so bravely led
We’ve taken up. And we will keep
True faith with you who lie asleep
With each a cross to mark his bed,
In Flanders fields.
Fear not that ye have died for naught.
The torch ye threw to us we caught.
Ten million hands will hold it high,
And Freedom’s light shall never die!
We’ve learned the lesson that ye taught
In Flanders fields.

Die Teufel-Hunde

That’s the German name for the United States Marine Corps which was born on this date in 1775. Their traditions carry through over the years to this day. Not only are they the Devil Dogs, they are also the Jarheads, the Leathernecks, whose a**es ride in Navy equipment safely. They are Always Faithful FOR US. That’s why I’m always thankful to the Marines.
If the Army and Air Force ever gaze on Heaven’s scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines. OOO-RAH!
This, from a former Squid.

He’s Black & He’s Right

Filed under: | History | Republicans

Here’s another black guy who cuts through the Bulls**t. Remember how many times I’ve said that if you don’t vote for Senator Obama then you’re a Racist? Well, Bob Parks points out the true history of the Demo☭rats.
Which reminds me, I gotta e-mail Bob for Zo’s URL to post here.

Indiana Jones and The Lost Frozen Tomb?

As recently as fifteen years ago, Indiana Jones was still alive, having been born in 1899, and also as long as George Lucas didn’t retcon the scenes in the TV series out of existence. But I digress.
This is the type of adventure he’d be going on, if the circumstances involved hadn’t taken place half a century beyond his most recent adventure. That is, if his wife will let him!
But wait! There’s an enemy in this one: a time-travelling “Oracle” ranting and raving something about the weather....will they run out of time, leaving the lost remains to be uncovered and plundered by pirates? Stay tuned!

63 Years Ago: Nagasaki

With the Potsdam Declaration, the Allies told Japan to “Surrender or Else!” The Japanese mocked “Or Else WHAT!” The First Else was delivered at HIroshima. Japan still refused to surrender, so the Second Else was delivered to Nagasaki at 1102 hours Japan Standard Time on August 9, 1945:

As it turns out, this was was the Secondary Target. Kokura and Niigata are quite likely very thankful they were spared.

63 Years Ago: Hiroshima

Or, as the late Richard Pryor put it, and I quote:

“Did you hear what them little yellow b*st*rds did? S**t, they bombed Pearl Harbor. We’re gonna have to clean their clocks....

AND WE DID.

The Stuff of WWII Nightmares

One can only imagine what vernacular terminology the Germans would have come up with during World War II if the Allies had constructed a monstrosity such as this!
To say the least, they probably would have soiled their trousers, something normally reserved for the French.

The Declaration of Independence

On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress approved the following document, and 56 men pledged their Lives, their Fortunes, and their sacred Honor so that men and women everywhere could be free. This is a document which, so far, has withstood the test of time, and has enraged tyrants everywhere, yet struck fear into the very same hearts, which is why they continue to suppress their subjects.
Click on the depiction of the signing for the text, or the thumbnail to see the Declaration itself.
