Today and yesterday, I’ve been extremely prolific in my writing, but not for the reasons one would normally associate with such proliferation. But I digress, eh.
A Major Canadian Newspaper has endorsed Stephen Harper and the Conservatives to lead the next government in Ottawa. And though they point out the positives over the last twelve years of the Liberals, this newspaper lists three reasons why it is time for the Liberals to go, eh.
The commenters are interesting: they’re all bitching about how this paper and that paper are “right-wing!” Before you take umbrage to that, let me remind you once again that Canadian “right-wingers,” usually referring to the Tories, are still considered to the LEFT of our Democrats! Now, imagine how far left the Liberals go, or worse yet, the NDP. There, aren’t you glad you live in the US of A, eh.

The Canadian Federal Election is set for January 23, which is one week from today. One voting bloc has already exercised its privilege that their American counterparts do not possess. That voting bloc consists of the prisoners, eh.
“We’re all voting for the Liberals, just because we want to keep our vote,” Jeff Power, an inmate at Manitoba’s Stony Mountain facility told CTV Winnipeg. “We don’t want to lose rights like our TVs, stuff like that.”
The Conservative Party is showing better results in the campaign polls than it has seen in years, and some hardened criminals are nervous. Many of them, like Power, voted Liberal today primarily to keep the Tories out of office. They’re worried the party will claw back benefits they have received under Liberal rule.
Hmmm...I wonder if the Donks are keeping in touch with Paul Martin and the Liberals, so they can learn how to enfranchise prisoners. It certainly didn’t work for them in 2000, eh.
Of course, that doesn’t stop there; the Liberals are running blatantly anti-American ads as the election date draws near. The title of their ad campaign? ”Choose Your Canada.” Indeed, eh.

Here I am and I have the TV on right now, and lo and behold what do I see! A show I haven’t seen since I lived in southeast Michigan, and that means almost 3 years, eh.
Da Vinci’s Inquest is a show based on a crusading coroner in Vancouver, British Columbia. It aired on CBC for seven years and recently ended its run in 2005 on that network, succeeded by Da Vinci’s City Hall. This show provides an insight into certain Canadian procedures for investigating crimes...especially murder, since the title character is a coroner, eh.
If this show is in your market, I highly recommend watching it. And it also happens to be on cable on Superstation WGN, eh.

Some time around 1830 hours Eastern Time (1630 MST), a no-confidence motion is to be voted upon in the Canadian House of Commons, and if it goes as expected, it will bring down the minority government of Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin, who will then turn to the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and call for elections early next year, eh.
Canadian voters will then face a campaign season which coincides with Christmas, and this will not sit well with them. The current polls suggest that the Conservative Party of Canada, led by Stephen Harper, may get the nod when the election takes place, but would have to form an coalition with another minority party to govern from Ottawa, most likely the separatist Bloc Québécois. Not a nice alliance, eh.
It seems to me that unless and until the Canadian voters get it in their minds that they have to get rid of the Liberals once and for all...they will be stuck with a succession of minority governments, eh.

When I was living back east, every so often I’d do some shopping across the border over in Windsor, Ontario for various things: groceries, clothing, that kind of stuff. The exchange rate between the US and Canadian dollars was excellent; back then, it was usually around US$1 = CDN$1.65 or thereabouts. One day I was at the Devonshire Mall and at the mall was this bookstore called Chapters, which is a lot like Borders here in the United States.
I perused through the inventory when all of a sudden my eyes went to this book, ”Canadian History for Dummies.” I scooped it up and bought it! This book is a very eye-opening read about just how much we Americans really do have in common with our Canadian friends...and yet at the same time, the differences as well which makes Canadians who they are. For instance, I found out what a “Trudeau Salute” is...and so can you!
Anyway, I finally found this book this morning as I was searching through some old photos (yes, the same “repository” where I found the Cleveland photo). Believe me, I was happy to see it again! I know some people at work who have definitely expressed an interest in seeing this book, so now I can take it to them.
Before someone brings up the “multiculturalism” meme again, let me point out that it is always important to know how people think and do things on an everyday basis, and that is a good starting point to building bridges of trust and friendship. It worked for the Soviets, and it also works with our friends. This book is a great place to see that in practice.
I do have a number of Canadian friends. They are all good people. I just don’t agree with their government, which has been in power since 1993, and how Ottawa see things vis-à-vis the War on Terror. But I’d much rather have the Canadians stand beside us than have them stand on the other side. Even the Québecers. After all, they’re Canadians too!
Then I checked Dummies.com and found out that, sadly, they don’t have a “Mexican History for Dummies” book. That sucks. They should.

Canada had a major election on June 28th, and as a result, Prime Minister Paul Martin’s Liberal Party didn’t win enough seats in the Canadian House of Commons to form an outright majority government, which means that for the first time in a quarter-century, Canadians will have to “live on the edge” with a minority government, eh.
In other words, if for some reason Prime Minister Martin loses a vote of confidence, Parliament is dissolved immediately and an election is called to take place six weeks later. The last minority government in Canada lasted only six months. Let’s see how long this one lasts, eh.
The breakdown: For the incoming 308-seat House of Commons, the Liberals won 135, followed by the Conservatives with 99 (official opposition who finally got united!), the Bloc Québécois 54, New Democrats 19, and 1 Independent, eh.
Compared to our political philosophies in this country, the Canadian Conservatives (aka the “Tories") would fit in with our DEMOCRATS here. Everyone else on Parliament Hill would fall even further to the Left, eh!
