N’awlins (that’s New Orleans for those of you not schooled in Southern speech) Mayor Ray Nagin has been re-elected. He defeated runoff challenger, Louisiana Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu (brother of US Senator Mary Landrieu...keeping that all in the family!), 52.9 percent to 47.1 percent. Normally this would be a “so what” moment, but here’s what got me:
“I want the city to come back,” said 61-year-old Alice Howard, an evacuee who returned by bus from Houston to cast her ballot. “This is my city. This is home to me....I want to make sure the correct person takes care of home.” [Emphasis added by Editor]
I wonder if I...and by extension, YOU the American Taxpayer, paid for Ms. Howard’s bus ticket home? Haven’t Louisianans heard of an absentee ballot? Or does their French civil law preclude that? I wonder.

Even at 68 years of age, former Secretary of State Madeline Albright can leg-press 400 pounds:
This follows a discussion of how she does not expect to re-marry, partly because, as she says, “I’m intimidating, don’t you think?”
As intimidating as Xenia Onatopp, perhaps?

Who all remembers Vermont Senator Jim Jeffords, who jumped the GOP ship to go Independent back in 2001? Here’s the possible counterweight...none other than Senator Joseph I. Lieberman:
“I have not foreclosed the option. If I wanted to run as an independent, I would. I’m running as a Democrat. I’ve been a Democrat all my life.”
Imagine Senator Lieberman leaving the party which left him. This is definitely a story worth watching.

No, not President Bush. Former President Jimmy Carter.
Not only has his deals with the various devils around the world (North Korea and the Paleostinians for starters) and his constant slamming of President Bush and the War on Terror eventually earning him a coveted Nobel Peace Prize, he now joins the Daily Kos (a noted left-wing blog) in answering questions from readers.
We are having to clean up the whole damn mess which started under the Peanut Farmer’s watch in 1979! And as it turns out, there is a movement afoot to advocate censure of this man. Yes, if there’s anyone who deserves to be censured, it’s Jimmy Carter. Why couldn’t he have just stuck to building houses for poor people?

It’s too bad the above headline doesn’t read that way, for that really is the true situation. As it is, we have to live with (apologies in advance to Dennis!) the Foamy Rantings of the Senate Minority Leader from time to time...and those interims between times is fast disappearing:
“Where is Condoleezza Rice? Why isn’t she over in the Middle East, as the chief diplomat of this country should be, trying to get the political forces to form a government over there?”
Um, Senator Reid, the last time I checked, there IS a government in Iraq, which is going through the same type of bickering OUR government did two hundred and twenty years ago. The only difference is in the details.
Here’s another anecdote which contributes to Senator Reid’s current disposition:
A man named Jack Gordon, who later married LaToya Jackson, tried to give Reid a $12,000 bribe. Reid let the FBI videotape Gordon offering him the bribe, and then, according to a Las Vegas Review-Journal account, he “put his hands around Gordon’s neck and said, ‘You son of a bitch, you tried to bribe me.’” That’s right, Senate Democrats are being led by a man who once tried to strangle LaToya Jackson’s future husband-manager. You call that boring?
Nope, not at all.

Am I supposed to gasp again at Mama Moonbat’s arrest yesterday in New York City, and shake my head in disbelief and disgust?
Richard Grenell, the spokesman for the U.S. Mission, said in response to Sheehan’s arrest: “We invited her in to discuss her concerns with a U.S. Mission employee. She chose not to come in but to lay down in front of the building and block the entrance. It was clearly designed to be a media stunt, not aimed at rational discussion,” Grenell said.
Nope! I’m gonna smile all the while, for much to the dismay of the Democrats, Cindy has become the poster child for their anti-Bush rhetoric; no matter how hard the Donks try to get rid of her, she just won’t go away.
For that reason, I encourage her to continue to express her free speech as much as possible. Please Cindy...do your worst!

Mama Moonbat has decided not to run after all. For that, we have California’s junior Senator, Barbara Boxer, to thank for Cindy’s decision:
On Tuesday, California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer urged Sheehan not to challenge Feinstein, saying it might actually hurt her anti-war cause. Boxer was one of 23 senators who voted against the 2002 resolution authorizing a use of force in Iraq.
“Maybe (Sheehan) is more valuable out there not as a candidate,” Boxer said Tuesday.
Bummer. Here I was, all ready to root for the former Mayor of San Francisco in this Celebrity Deathmatch!

If you wish to see John Ensign remain your junior Senator, do everything in your power to keep this man away from that seat!

Word has it that Mama Moonbat herself, Cindy Sheehan, who walks (and I use that word to be kind!) all over her son Casey’s grave, is considering a run for the US Senate from her base of operations in Berkeley. Her target is Senator Dianne Feinstein, and Ms. Sheehan is already going after her with a vengeance:
“She voted for the war. She continues to vote for the funding. She won’t call for an immediate withdrawal of the troops...I think our senator needs to be held accountable for her support of George Bush and his war policies.”
Some choice. Yet another reason to feel bad for the People of California. Maybe that’s why she’s hooking up with the likes of Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and now, Hugo Chavez (click on the thumbnail)...to lock up endorsements from the bastions of her beliefs. And what about George Soros? Your guess is as good as mine.

Our favorite nuanced Democrat, the junior Senator from Massachussetts, is at it again. He’s calling for the filibuster of Judge Samuel Alito’s nomination. However, this time, some Senators on the his side of the aisle have seen the writing on the wall and do not support his effort: most notably, Sen. Robert ”Sheets” Byrd (D-WV), who’s always four sheets to the wind...but maybe not this time!
After all, for the Donks, the REAL fight will begin when Justice John Paul Stevens retires, who’s been with SCOTUS for over thirty years.

Ted Kennedy was such a pompous a** (how apropos) during the Alito hearings! Well guess what: looks like the senior Senator from Massachussetts really does have a child born out of wedlock, and unlike the hit from Diana Ross & The Supremes, this child was definitely NOT born in poverty.
I know this will make at least one reader of this blog rubbing his hands with glee...and he knows who he is! That reader will be thinking:
“Welcome to the club,” says the Rev. Jesse Jackson!

Somewhere, Hannibal Smith must be smiling.
The Donks are getting their a**es handed to them on a platter (notice I didn’t say silver!) during the Samuel Alito confirmation hearings. Ted Kennedy (who will remain the senior Senator from Massachussetts until he dies) gets gaveled down by Senator Specter. Judge Alito’s wife breaks down in tears after hearing all the bulls**t guilt-by-association accusations of racism and sexism against her husband, who keeps his cool.
But if this is all the DemocRATS can muster after being granted two months to find ways to derail Judge Alito’s nomination, then they are a sorry bunch indeed. Since they claim that the judge will set womens’ rights back three (or more) decades, then where are the massive ”Screw Abstinence” copulative rallies to protest?
They’ve run out of gas. The type to fuel their engines of political participation, that is. Not the gas which drives their windbag Senators.

Yes, my friends, there really is such a book. Kevin Aylward at Wizbang thought it would be a good idea to replace the original captions with OUR versions of what the Democratic Party stands for in this day and age, and so I took him up on it (click on the thumbnails above). I saw a lot of funny captions over at the Wizbang entry, but this one takes the cake:
“...because you’re mommy’s little baby, and you need mommy for everything. You need taken care of. You need protected. You’re not going anywhere. Without mommy you’d be cold and alone. You need mommy to watch you and make sure you are a good person. Wouldn’t that be nice, if mommy could watch everybody and make sure they were good people? Never betray mommy. I Said You Are Not Leaving. Mommy is watching you.”
Yep, it definitely explains why my ex-wife is a Democrat!

I started to write this last evening, but was thankfully interrupted for a while by a co-conspirator. So now I’ll try this again....
Jimmy Carter (illustration courtesy of John Cox) has pissed off a whole bunch of people, including me...and has done so for many years. He routinely trashes the President (and thus, broke the unwritten tradition of former Presidents not speaking ill of the current officeholder), he routinely trashes our men and women in the Armed Forces (whom he emasculated back when he was the Boss), while at the same time earns the accolades of the UN, the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, and dictators around the world such as Mr. Ronery.
So why didn’t he stick to what he was good at...writing books, building houses, and teaching Sunday School? Why does he continue to want to screw up the world? And is it any wonder we threw his a** out after four years of Malaise, the Misery Index, and let’s not forget his ineptitude about the Iran Hostage Crisis.
There, I’m done venting for the day.
