Tuna to Lions?

As expected, the Detroit Lions fired Head Coach Rod Marinelli today, after three seasons and a 10-38 record to show for it. Then again, many Lions Fans will look back to Matt Millen as the main cause which led to the 0-16 season, the first in NFL History, and Millen was sacked back in September.
As soon as I read this, the Detroit Free Press also reported that Bill Parcells, currently in Miami’s front office and responsible for the Dolphins’ worst-to-first turnaround, is considering the Lions for another head coaching position. Can “The Tuna” help the Lions overcome their losing culture which has permeated that franchise for decades? It’s too soon after the season to tell.

True Futility

First came the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who didn’t win their first game until the following season, on Game #13. Next, the 1991 Raleigh-Durham Skyhawks of the World League of American Football lasted only one season with an 0-10 record, before folding.
Now comes an established franchise since 1934. The Detroit Lions are the first team in NFL History to go 0-16 in a single season (they went to 16 games in 1978). They lost to Green Bay, 31-21. A sad day for Detroit, to say the least.
Now, let the purges begin.

Lie-Downs Lie Down To Saints

42-7. The slaughter started early and continued through the third quarter. By then, I guess the Saints decided to extend some sort of mercy, since they didn’t score at all in the fourth...they must have sent in their second-string unit.
Next week: The Lie-Downs finish the season at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

The Loins are 0-14!

They may have been handily beaten by the Indianapolis Colts 31-21, but at least this week they didn’t Lie Down; apparently Dainty Culpepper didn’t start, and their offense scored two touchdowns. So that is some progress.
The 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with their Day-Glo orange uniforms, finished their inaugural season at 0-14. However, back then, the NFL season was only 14 games. So the Loins still have two games to lose, for true single-season futility.

OMG! The Cardinals WON!

It’s been ten years since the Cardinals made the NFL Playoffs...It’s been 33 years since they won a division (while in St. Louis), and it’s been 61 years since they hosted a Playoff game (while in Chicago). That’s how storied this team has been. Well they won the NFC West by defeating the St. Louis Rams 34-10.
It’s about time for this team. I’ve been told by others that, until now, they didn’t deserve to play in the University of Phoenix Stadium. Now that’s been taken care of. It’ll still take the last three weeks of the season to determine which Wild Card team will come to town (it’ll be the one with the least record). Until then, Cardinals...keep playing and keep winning!

Lie-Downs Continue Perfect Season

Yep, this week they were beaten by the Minnesota Vikings, 20-16, making the Loins still the only winless team in the NFL this season. At least they scored points in each quarter this game, but still, their top scorer remains Jason Hanson.
Even Head Coach Rod Marinelli has spoken to his players about the possibility of becoming the first team in NFL History to go 0-16. With their remaining games at Indianapolis, hosting New Orleans, and at Green Bay, it may very well happen and the Lions (and Fans) had better be ready for it.

Cool Army Uniforms

Man, check these out!

Even though Navy kicked Army’s a** once again, 34-0 (YAY!), you gotta hand it to the Army for coming out with these 21st-century camouflage patterns on their uniforms! With “Duty, Honor, Country” above the modern numbers on the back of the jerseys, these sold like hotcakes the day of the game.
I wonder if Navy might do something similar with their digital camo patterns. They don’t need to, given their performance in the series over the last 7 years, but still, it’d be cool to see.

Suspended Indefinitely? For THIS???

Filed under: | BS Patrol | Sports

A sign of complete and total surrender to political correctness:

“Uh, I’m really happy to be back in Calgary. I love Canada.
“And I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about.
“Enjoy the game tonight.”

And of course, the NHL doesn’t have the ‘nads to tell Avery face-to-face that he’s been suspended for conduct deterimental to the NHL. They do this via e-mail. I swear to God, it’s gotten to the point where no one can’t take a little name-calling, much less trash talking, anymore. Must be that “alternative lifestyle” we have to accept, where it’s OK to be a Slut. Yeah, that must be it.
Last time I checked, there’s no such thing in either the United States Constitution, or Canada’s Charter of Freedoms, where there’s a right where we can’t be offended.

Loins Continue Perfect Season

A perfect season of LOSING, that is. They lost again at The Vault to the Carolina Panthers, 31-22.
Seems like the Loins have no offensive punch; they got most of their points from Kicker Jason Hanson, who’s been with the franchise since 1992. I think it’s going to take a real humiliation of an 0-16 season for the Ford Family to make a real change.

Wolverines Suck

Yes, my friends, I am a Michigan Fan. And as a Michigan Fan, I have the right to say when Michigan Sucks. Well, after their loss to Purdue today, and added to earlier a**-kickings by Notre Dame and Moo U, the Wolverines now have their first Losing Season since 1967! That was before Bo came upon the scene!
Dang. Yes, Michigan Sucks. Now when do they play the Detroit Lions?

A Sign of The Apocalpyse?

It used to be said that The Apocalypse would be at hand when the Boston Red Sox played the Chicago Cubs in the World Series. That is, until the Red Sox won it all in 2004, breaking the Curse of the Bambino. The Curse of the Billy Goat, however, is still in effect, and it’s now been a full century since the Cubs last won a World Series.
Think about that...100 years. Powered flight, two World Wars, the Atomic Bomb, a Cold War, Man on the Moon, and now the War on Terror. Through all that, the Cubs Fans have suffered. And truth be told, I hope this is the year where the Cubs finally win it all, as does one certain Chicago Dude Who Trades. I’m pulling for him too. The only thing missing from it all is, of course, Harry Caray.

Can I Wake Up Now?

Filed under: | DFCs | Sports

Now that the Beijing Games are over...here’s what I took away from there:
The father of a former US Olympian was murdered. Then the perpetrator commits suicide. Case closed as far as the DFC Chinese are concerned.
DFC China won the most gold medals (host countries tend to do this), but the USA still won the most overall.
The august body of sports elitists known as the International Olympic Committee swept under the rug the allegation that a certain DFC Chinese gymnast was only 14.
A DFC Cuban taekwondo fighter kicked the referee after being disqualified, resulting in a lifetime ban from the sport. And the guy’s coach called the ruling too strict. BULLS**T!
The USA won the gold in men’s bastketball. About time!
There, now did I miss much? I think not. Now it’s on to London in four years, and we’ll be lucky if we still see Big Ben and St. Paul’s Cathedral not overshadowed by that big-a** mosque they’re building.

На Стойке Медали

Filed under: | РУССКИЕ ДЕЛА | Sports

Look who shows up on opposite ends of the Women’s 10-Meter Air Pistol (40 Shots) event:

With all the s**t that’s been happening over the last few days between these two countries, it’s a good thing China’s Wenjun Guo was in between them on the Medal Stand. Россия: Ваше Движение!

Olympics = Dar al-Harb

Filed under: | Sports | War on Terror

OK, today is the first day of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, in Beijing, DFC China. The Islamofascists have from now until August 24 to make good on their threat to attack the Games.
As despicable as the Chinese Government has been toward dissident groups, athletes, and sports fans from around the world, security is paremount and airtight, with a little bit of iron fist thrown in. In case anyone keeps track, any attack by anyone on the Olympics is considered to be an Act of WAR...and the last time that happened, that was back in 1972 in Munich.
We’ll just have to wait and see.
