In undergoing some “spring cleaning” here, the Official Roommate found an amazing device dating back to the early 1990s: a Sony Discman DD-1EX electronic book, a bulky unit which his dad gave to him about twelve years ago. He doesn’t know if it still works. Wouldn’t that be somethign if it did!
Here are two photos: the first is of the unit itself; the second is a side-by-side comparison to another device which fulfills that function and then some: the iPhone 3G.
Needless to say, I got a retro kick out of it too.

Hey, does anyone out there have a Zune mp3 player? Yeah, the one produced by Microsoft. Turns out if you do, they are resetting all over the world!
SAN FRANCISCO - Happy New Year from Microsoft Corp.: Your Zune is dead.
Thousands of Microsoft’s Zune media players — the software company’s answer to Apple Inc.’s iPod — unexpectedly conked out Wednesday and showed users an error message, prompting references to “Y2K for Zunes.” The problems appeared when people tried to start up their devices.
Frustrated users lit up Microsoft’s online support forum for Zunes with more than 2,500 messages by Wednesday afternoon.
I attempted to inform the Official Roommate about this development, but I’m unable to communicate with him, because he’s rolling around on the floor laughing his a** off!
Why does this not surprise me?

Does the guy in this photo work for the Graystone Corporation? You be the judge:
As weirddd as this concept is, it’s very relevant, given the upcoming prequel spinoff, which I hear is now being delayed until 2010. Frak.

I got bit by a hoax six months ago...and apparently, The Guardian (in the UK) apparently didn’t get the message. They’re reporting that Hyperion has licensed micro-reactor technology from Los Alamos:
Let’s assume for a moment that this technology is real. Wouldn’t this create a bureaucratic nightmare if/when hundreds, if not thousands, of small towns who want to obtain energy independence apply for licenses to operate them? Or is that included in the $25-$30 million price? And we can’t leave the environmentalists who will go apes**t. Yes, all things being equal, this will keep the lawyers happy.

Yes, this is a bug report initially filed in August 2001, and it apparently affects all Mozilla products across all platforms. Wait until you see the proposed solution.
Um...no thanks to that!

Hmmm...now I have to admit this conversion is interesting. I wonder if it runs the Colonial civilian operating system prior to the CNP, which the Toasters shut down en masse?

I wonder if Ron Moore and David Eick are keeping abreast of this latest development in Japan? Since Caprica will hit the airwaves in a couple of months, I know I’ll be comparing this to how the Graystones create the first Cylon.
It’s clear that, due to their population decline, the Japanese are clearly ahead in this path and will continue to be for quite some time to come.

After seeing this, I KNOW I don’t ever want to buy another PC...and neither does The Official Roommate (Thanks BTW)!

Some people think the recently-retired F-117A Night Hawk, which has now gone under the wrecking ball (so to speak), was the closest thing we have to a Cylon Raider. The old series, that is:

These are toasters I’m gonna miss.

Time for a double-take on the following chart:
Click on the chart for the story. Humor aside, I don’t blame anyone who goes this route to say “Frak OPEC.”

He’s coming to save Vista! Or so hopes Microsoft, who’s pitching him $10 million to appear in new ads touting Vista‘s virtues. That could be a hard sell, because many new PC buyers immediately downgrade to XP.
And I’m truly surprised it took Microsoft this long to answer Apple’s ”Get A Mac” ads. I never could stand his show while it was on TV. We’ll see how many Mac users get pissed off at his commercials just because he’s in them.
