Back around February 16, Firefox passed the 25 million download mark. Now it’s going to hit 50 MILLION DOWNLOADS!!
What an amazing achievement for a product which is now threatening Internet Exploder’s dominance of the browser market. So if you haven’t already done yourself and your computer a favor, give Firefox a try! You won’t regret it!
UPDATE: The 50,000,000th DOWNLOAD took place at 0858 hours PDT today! Take THAT, Bill Gates!

Today the Airbus A380 completed its first successful flight in Frawnce. This is one HUGE plane...bigger than the 747!
It’s taken Airbus 11 years and $13 billion (and with a $1 billion cost overrun) to get to this point. Each 555-passenger, 600-ton double-decker superjumbo (and may I remind you that this is NOT a novel idea; Boeing once contemplated a double-decker 747 back in the early 70s) will cost $282 million each. So anyone who files on such an airplane will ultimately pick up the tab.
Airbus is betting there will be a higher demand for airlines to move large groups of passengers between major hubs (LAX, ORD, Heathrow). Boeing, on the other hand, thinks the key is moving passengers between smaller hubs (ATL to THF, for example) and that is why they are developing the 787 Dreamliner; they’ve just picked up Air Canada on its order list.
It will be an interesting battle to see which method of air passenger transport will prevail.

I never admitted otherwise...I’m a Nerd!
And While I’m At It…
Not bad, considering I haven’t watched Star Trek on a regular basis for nearly 10 years! It’s gotten too politically correct, that’s why! And I stopped watching for the most part when TPTB couldn’t even get Tuvok’s blood the right color!
Are you done gasping for breath yet?

In case anyone was wondering, here’s my “linguistic profile:”
60% General American English
15% Upper Midwestern
10% Dixie
5% Midwestern
5% Yankee
What Kind of American English Do You Speak?
Hat Tip: Amritas
UPDATE: Nearly 24 hours after I take this “test” I notice it doesn’t add up to 100%. Hmmmmm...well I’m not about to retake this test just for the sake of 5 extra points. I can chalk that up to my “cosmopolitan” exposure to many different languages, not just English.

Hot on the heels of his father’s second marriage...word now comes that Prince Harry has failed an information technology assessment prior to entry into Sandhurst (the UK’s Royal Military Academy). Not good news considering that Prince Harry has had as much exposure to today’s technology as his older brother.
I have no idea, but perhaps Harry might want to brush up on what the Blue Screen of Death is...he’ll see those no doubt!

I haven’t been feeling too good the last couple of days...hence not a lot of blogging. Been suckin’ down those “Re-call-A” cough drops, spraying my sore throat with Chloraseptic (at least the Wally World version of it)...also poppin’ the Coricidin HBP for my sinus headaches. So now you think you’re putting up with a walking apothecary ad? Deal with it.
ANYWAY...Hud blows me away (and gets a HAT TIP with this old nostalgic blast from the past when Disco was King...and the first photos on the page remind me of the suit I wore for my high school senior picture which, FYI, you will NOT find on this site!

Indeed.
Starting in March, the Canon Digital Rebel XT will be sold here in the USA. It’s known as the EOS 350D Digital in Europe and the EOS Kiss n Digital in Japan (clever, those Japanese!). It’s got 8 MEGAPIXELS and I am drooling!
Must...resist...long...enough...to...be...able...to...afford it!

In the 99 days since Firefox 1.0’s launch, 25 million users who got tired of Internet Exploder’s BS (myself included) have downloaded this slick, fast browser and more are downloading every day!
It’s gotten to the point where Microsoft had to respond...and they have in announcing IE 7. We’ll soon see if they can live up to Firefox’s challenge!

I downloaded Mozilla’s Firefox 1.0 open-source browser last night and installed it on my computer...AND I LIKE IT! Here’s a screenshot. Click on it for a full-size view. So far, it’s a lot smaller than Netscape. Try half the size. But then again Netscape has all kinds of stuff jammed into it too. There are quite a few elements in Firefox that also show up in Apple’s Safari browser (which I also use), and that’s because one of the guys who worked on the initial development of Firefox went to work for Apple. USA Today has a story on the initial surge for an alternate browser.
If you want to improve your web browsing experience and you can’t stand how Internet Exploder has become shot full of security holes, or if you don’t like how bloated Netscape is...then go for Firefox! You won’t regret it!

A few years ago when I was still living in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti, MI area I stumbled (with help from the saurusmeister) upon a WEIRDDD online cartoon called ”Badger Badger Badger.” Now the guy which created that sensation has a bunch of others, and the three I’ve seen so far are ”Choccy," ”Breadfish," and ”Kenya." Be prepared.

SpaceShipOne lands safely after reaching space for the second time in less than a week. It WINS the Ansari X Prize of $10 MILLION to the first private spacecraft which can complete two spaceflights within a two-week time frame. The photo here is of SpaceShipOne landing after completing this historic flight. ONLY IN AMERICA!
CONGRATULATIONS to Burt Rutan, Paul Allen, pilots Michael Melvill and Brian Binnie, and the entire SpaceShipOne team on this magnificent achievement which not only puts it on the same historic par as Charles Lindbergh’s 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic, but opens up an entirely new era of manned spaceflight by private firms!

A Princeton physicist loves M&Ms. OK, no big deal. But when his students present him with a 55-gallon drum of the stuff he goes to work on it and discovers something very interesting about them....
