The reaction to the banning of not only this site and the sixteen other sites (three of which show up as not found)...but also any and all sites located on Typepad, GeoCities, and Blogspot...is growing worldwide, resulting in some fast backtracking by the Indian Government:
After two days of angry inquiries and charges of government censorship, the Indian government took a step towards explaining a mysterious block to personal blogs, calling it “a technological error” that would be repaired soon.
A ”technological error,” eh. Definitely a bulls**t reaction for explaining away a screwup followed by massive citizen complaints. Another article in the San Jose Mercury News notes this about the 17 individual sites:
Surprisingly, almost half of the original sites the Indian government ordered blocked are operated by conservative American bloggers who write about the Mideast and the Iraq war but who don’t get much readership in India.
It may be a surprise to that writer there, but it shouldn’t be to anyone reading the Band of the Banned (thanks Rusty for the moniker!). I checked SiteMeter this morning and so far, there are Indian nodes getting through. And there’s been a quick peek from someone in Saudi Arabia!...let’s see how fast I’ll get banned from that country. Or should you be asking, does Macker really give a damn about what those guys think?
