Here’s a piece of history. Well…sort of.
Way back in 1972, I got this (click on the thumbnail) during a school trip, from a salt mine in Massawa, Ethiopia, a Red Sea port which now belongs to Eritrea. And from what I’ve been hearing, the Eritreans are not on the up-and-ups with either Ethiopia (with whom they’ve fought three border wars since gaining independence in 1991 and lost them all!) or the United States. So sad.
This simple piece of salt is a reminder of a different time and a far-away land. Amazing that I still have it, thirty-three years later. And I plan on keeping it for as long as I live.
