New Elections for Canada, Eh

Filed under: Great White North |

Some time around 1830 hours Eastern Time (1630 MST), a no-confidence motion is to be voted upon in the Canadian House of Commons, and if it goes as expected, it will bring down the minority government of Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin, who will then turn to the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and call for elections early next year, eh.
Canadian voters will then face a campaign season which coincides with Christmas, and this will not sit well with them. The current polls suggest that the Conservative Party of Canada, led by Stephen Harper, may get the nod when the election takes place, but would have to form an coalition with another minority party to govern from Ottawa, most likely the separatist Bloc Québécois. Not a nice alliance, eh.
It seems to me that unless and until the Canadian voters get it in their minds that they have to get rid of the Liberals once and for all...they will be stuck with a succession of minority governments, eh.
