Die Kommunistische Verbraucher-Kultur

Bet you didn’t think there was such a thing, did you? Well it turns out that there was! The East German government had a challenge on their hands: satisfying the demands of its citizens for consumer goods (which they were used to getting while in Nazi Germany), while at the same time promoting Socialist values and self-reliance.
Check out this very popular camera in the DDR!

I wonder what format it used….
Anyhow, as you go further into the photo gallery, you’ll be amazed at all these products sold behind the Iron Curtain. Hey RDM! You should see this too…this stuff would have fit perfectly in the BSG milieu of post-Cylon War Colonial society!

COMMENTS

Macker when I was somewhat younger in the pre fall of the Berlin wall days they used to sell Zenit SLR’s in the UK. They were basic but worked well. I think when the iron curtain came down the East Germans inherited a part of Zeiss as well. They also did quite a range of motorcycles for the export market. MZ and CZ but CZ may have been Czech. They were bloody rubbish but cheap!

You didn’t bring any of that stuff with you, did you, eh? cool smile
