The Macker Recommends

Since the upgrade in iTunes to version 7, the iTunes Store has also upgraded the quality of the video downloads. Now they’re at 640x480, or DVD quality! Woo-hoo! Last night I downloaded Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far (which was a freebie…but of course!), but that’s not what I’m going to be discussing here.
There is a pilot on the CW network titled Aquaman, and it’s about the DC comics superhero in a contemporary setting, produced by the creators of Smallville. It tells the tale of Arthur “A.C.” Curry (Justin Hartley), a young adult who discovers his powers from the watery world of his birth, and his training to fight for the adopted world he lives on, as well as to protect the seas from a secret war on both. His powers get him into trouble above water, but also gets him out of other situations as well.
Lou Diamond Phillips plays Tom Curry, A.C’s adoptive father, who does not know his son’s true nature, and Ving Rhames (the guy from the Radio Shack commercials and the abortive remake of Kojak) plays A.C.‘s mentor, McCaffrey, who does, and begins to train him for the fight ahead. Comics aficianados may have trouble with this series, but I won’t; I never really got into collecting comics.
Aquaman has not yet been picked up by The CW as a fall series, but is still in contention as a mid-season replacement. I look forward to watching more episodes. It is available for download from the iTunes Store for $1.99. It’s worth it.
