To Boldly Go…

Some Trek fans have WAAAAAAY too much time on their hands, as evidenced by an analytical study of the Red Shirts’ casualty rates during the USS Enterprise‘s five-year mission from the Original Series. Check this out:

Probability of a red-shirt casualty= 53%
14% of fights ended in a fatality (with a 72% chance the fatality wore a red shirt)
Probability of a red-shirt “incident” when Kirk has a “conquest” = 12%

In other words, the Security crewmember stands a much better chance of surviving a mission to an alien planet if Captain Kirk “makes contact” with the local women! Now I’d like to see this study extended to TNG, DS9, and Voyager, and see how Security fares under those respective Captains.

Check out the song “He’s Dead Jim” from The Functional Idiots on their myspace site: http://www.myspace.com/thefunctionalidiots

You gotta be kidding me. I’d rather listen to Warp 11...or better yet, these guys....

Sorry if you didn’t like “He’s Dead Jim”, I thought you would get a kick out of it with its references to the casualty rates of the Red Shirts too.  I would have linked to either of the cover versions M.O.D. did, but I had not been able to find either of them available on the net for streaming.

I don’t have iTunes installed so I couldn’t check out Warp 11.  I’ll have to send Stovokor a friends request from my myspace account, they sound good.

...or send me an e-mail, I can send you the files directly. For the Glory of Qo’noS! cool smile
