Mary Texeira, a professor at Cal State San Bernardino, advocates a policy decision by the San Bernardino City Unified School District to try and help black students learn...by teaching them in Ebonics:
“Ebonics iz uh different language, it’snot slang as many believe. Fo’ many o’ deez students Ebonics iz they language, an’ it should be considered uh foreign language. These students should be taught like other students who speak uh foreign language. Ya’ dig?… There iz blacks who do not agree wiff me. They say dat negroid students iz lazy an’ dat dey need ta learn ta jive. What the f**k sup now?”
BULLS**T! That is pure plain laziness on the part of both the parents and the educators involved! As Vilmar (Thanks for the Hat Tip!) points out, there are black people in other countries who speak the local language correctly with no grammatical errors. The best example I can think of is British boxer Lennox Lewis. They don’t need any of this Ebonics bulls**t. When I was young and lived overseas in Italy, I had to learn some Italian to communicate with the Italian kids...especially if I played soccer with them.
So why the hell can’t black students learn ENGLISH for a change? They’ll be better citizens and get a lot farther ahead in the working world too! It also brings up the “multicultural patchwork” vs. “melting pot” debate, and let me tell those who doubt me where I stand: English should be the Official Language of the United States! Go to USEnglish to find out how!
