This man is a Democrat. Notice I didn’t say Donk in introducing him to you. That moniker belongs to his opponent.
His name is Hank Johnson, and he is running against Cynthia McKinney in a special runoff election for the Democratic nomination in Georgia’s 4th Congressional District (east of Atlanta), scheduled for Tuesday, August 8. He wants to unseat her, and for good reason. If anyone remembers McKinney’s recent debacle with the Capitol Police, where she smacked an officer who requested that she stop and identify herself when she wasn’t wearing her special ID pin…well, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. He’s even put in an appearance over at Winds of Change to state his case.
In order for a healthy two-party system to survive and thrive in our country, we need honest Democrats in Congress with real ideas. Joe Lieberman is one such guy. Zell Miller was another (before he retired). Since Hank Johnson has already demonstrated a willingness to reach out to the blogosphere, then I’ll put him in this category as well.
